President FDR was one of the most important president in the USA because he wanted to make a difference. He was elected president in 1932, he was elected 4 times for president. He promised to end the people's suffering by creating the New Deal.
The New Deal was created to fight to end the economic depression. During the Great Depression citizens lost homes, the economy was horrible. The stock market dropped 85% in 1929, 1/4 of the citizens were unemployed and men would stand in lines to get soup and bread.
What president FDR did was protected us and helped us out starting with his "First 100 Days".
He spent his "First 100 Days" working with the congress trying to fight for the American people. The economy was in depression and couldn't get out of it, people were hungry and living on the corner streets.
FDR declared war trying to try this, 50% of the people were unemployed or under-employed.
